About

Who the Fudge Am I?

Thorsten Loesch, mostly Thor. Audio engineer, based in Thailand.

I grew up in East Germany with a tube radio and a record player that sounded awful, so I rewired the first and built my own system. At 12 it won the school science fair. I studied electronics, built mixing desks for a small private pro-audio firm, mixed bands live, and qualified as a Tonmeister. I then moved to the UK, took a second degree in computer science, and spent years in financial IT while building amplifiers at night.

Sound Practices and the Ultra-Fidelity DIY crowd brought the tubes back. I published designs and articles as open source on the early web (TNT-Audio, Enjoythemusic.com, Valve, diyAudio, Audio Asylum) until others started selling them. I then joined AMR and iFi as Director of Technology, later Head of Design and Chief Designer, working there until 2019. My association with both ended in 2020. Seven AMR products and 44 iFi products later, I went independent.

Currently: Founder of Studio Raumklang, Co-founder of Studio Cocktail.
